Boston Massacre 112, Charm City Mobtown Maulers 110

In a memorable conclusion to their rookie season as a WFTDA league, Charm City's 18th-ranked Mobtown Maulers came within a whisker of upsetting the 15th-ranked Boston Massacre, falling 112-110 in a thrilling back-and-forth bout that came down to the very last seconds.

Boston's most recent game had been a February home loss to the Philly Liberty Belles, while Baltimore's Maulers were playing on the road for their third bout in a row, their most recent bouts being a win against Grand Raggidy and a loss against Detroit at March's East Coast Extravaganza. The Maulers were sporting a new member, with powerful blocker Mibbs Breakin' Ribs making her debut as a Mauler to help fill the hole left when Lady Quebeaum suffered a broken leg just a week before the ECE. On the opposing bench, the Massacre was skating without Harlot Fevah and Pussy Venom.

Detroit 124, Charm City 107

Just one day after holding back a determined assault from the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls at Philly's East Coast Derby Extravaganza, the Mobtown Maulers found themselves on the opposite end of a very similar game, falling 124-107 to the Detroit Derby Girls. Detroit had also played on the ECE's opening day, going down 192-49 against the Carolina Roller Girls. The Maulers both gained and lost a player from the previous day's matchup against Grand Raggidy -- key jammer Betty Beatdown made it into town, but key blocker Sizzle-Leen was ill and unable to play.

In the second bout of Philly's East Coast Extravaganza invitational, the Charm City Roller Girls' Mobtown Maulers added another first to their increasingly impressive rookie season, defeating the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls 95-75 to become the first Division III league to defeat a Division II league in a WFTDA-sanctioned bout. The Maulers came into the game with a considerable hurdle to overcome, with both their second and third highest-scoring jammers not on the roster. Betty Beatdown was unavailable to come to the bout, and Lady Quebeaum had suffered a season-ending broken leg just six days previous at practice. In their place were Maulers alternates Sizzle-Leen and Roxy Toxic -- it was Sizzle's third game as a Mauler, and Roxy's second.

Here's last night's bout recap from CCRG's head referee, Justice Feelgood Marshall:

"In the first-ever matchup between two Division III WFTDA leagues, the
Charm City Roller Girls' Mobtown Maulers put a record-setting hurting on
the visiting Long Island Roller Rebels, demolishing them 289-16 for the
Maulers' first WFTDA victory.

The Maulers were playing at nearly full strength for the first time
since their debut in November, with captain and co-captain Pistol Whip
and Buzz Kill back after a two-bout absence and Berzerker and Betty
Beatdown fully recovered from recent injuries. From the beginning of the

Bout recap written by Justice Feelgood Marshall #1954 - America's Referee:

Charm City's Mobtown Maulers snapped a two-game losing streak in
convincing fashion, dispatching the Nuclear Knockouts from Harrisburg
Area Roller Derby 141-59 for their first-ever away win and moving to 2-2
in interleague play. It was only the second interleague bout for the
ladies from Harrisburg, who fell to 0-2, having lost their debut against
Philly's intraleague team Hostile City Honeys by a score of 192-73 back
in December 2006. Both the Knockouts and the Maulers were playing at
less than full strength. The Knockouts were able to field only 12

Here's a bout recap from Charm City's head ref Justice Feelgood Marshall:

The Charm City Roller Girls hosted their first home interleague bout as the Dominion Derby Girls from Southern Virginia came up to Baltimore to do battle with the CCRG's all-star team, the Mobtown Maulers. Both teams came into this bout with one interleague match under their belts -- the Maulers had spanked the Arizona Derby Dames 74-33 at Rollercon 2006 back in July, and Dominion had suffered a 162-115 loss to the Penn-Jersey She-Devils in September.

With the Dominion league only two games into its first season and the Charm City girls just having wrapped up their six-game first season, the ladies from Dominion were playing with a significant deficit of experience, and it was clear from the outset that the night was going to be a learning experience for the visitors.

Night Terrors 57, Speed Regime 55

The Speed Regime entered the championship game as huge favorites over the 2-3 Night Terrors. Not only was the Speed Regime sporting an undefeated 5-0 record, they'd trounced the Night Terrors in their previous matchup in June, winning by a lopsided 96-55 margin. Given the Regime's increasingly convincing domination of the entire league -- they'd won their last three games by 41 points, 35 points and 44 points -- Baltimore derby fans would have been forgiven for expecting another blowout. But they got something very different indeed.

Charm City Roller Girls' August 20th Playoff Results!

Submitted by CheetaTorpeda on August 22, 2006 - 6:26am.

This is the bout recap from our Head Ref, Justice Feelgood Marshall:

The Charm City Roller Girls' first ever playoff doubleheader on August 20th featured two rivalries that had been heating up all season long. The Speed Regime was facing the Junkyard Dolls for the third time in five games, and the Night Terrors and Mobtown Mods were in the same boat. The Regime had solidly defeated the fiery Dolls in two wild games, while the Mods had triumphed over the Terrors in two tight games marked by high speeds and high scores. This time, though, there wasn't just pride on the line - the winners would face each other in the September championship, while the losers would have to settle for the third-place game.
