OK derby artists and local artists alike. In a MySpace bulletin, AZRD has announced that they are looking for new logos for two of their teams, the Brawlarinas and the Bruisers. The winners will have their design debuted at the AZRD 2008-09 season opener bout, which has been announced for September 13, 2008. According to AZRD, the winning artists will also receive season tickets for the upcoming season as well as merchandise autographed by the team's skaters.

Well derby fans, welcome to a "no derby" weekend here in Arizona. Many of you get to celebrate a long weekend with Independence Day falling on a Friday this year. Let's poke our stick around the various leagues and get a glimpse on what is happening.

We have a flash final score from Bladeworld in Tucson:
WFTDA-INTERLEAGUE
(6) TUCSON ROLLER DERBY SADDLETRAMPS - 81
(26) PIKES PEAK DERBY DAMES SLAMAZONS - 94
Sloppy Flo did not skate tonight due to asthma. With all of the brush fires here in Phoenix and down in Tucson, I can totally understand any skater who is also asthmatic sitting out. Flo's presence may have helped TRD win this bout or at least narrow the margin.
The AZDR was not at this bout.

Well derby fans, as we come to an Independence Day break, the Arizona derby world has one more interleague and then after the holiday, we will countdown to Rollercon 2008. Unfortunately, I will not be able to go this year. Sorry, my real job does have to come before derby, even though I wish the situation was different.

Michi-chan Roller Sports Productions, operator of the official site for the Arizona Derby Report has converted to a new content management system replacing the prior web services that were mainly manual in nature.
The new site includes a database of bouts, statistics, historical information as well as information on upcoming events as well as places to skate.

PHOENIX, AZ - June 14, 2008 - The Castle Sports Club was definitely the Phoenix hot spot last night both outside and inside the venue. It's that time of the year when it's 105 degrees outside and inside, the swamp coolers at the Castle don't do anything but turn Arizona into Florida.
From what I could see, attendance was slightly down compared to previous bouts. I think the cost of gas is putting a crunch on some fan's derby dollars, but the die-hard fans were definitely there and there was definitely an audible roar along 19th Avenue last night.

First of all, before any unfounded rumors start, I was the one who deleted the previous article from a few days ago. That was my editorial decision.
While some had found the article to be too strong and some questioned my derby love, I do stand by what was mentioned in the article.
Phoenix area derby is in dire need of repair in some places. What was a fun sport for the skaters and the spectators has turned into a political power struggle and it has affected the game. As a derby fan, I want the game back. I should not always have to travel to Tucson to see good WFTDA derby.

On May 31, 6 ranked Tucson Roller Derby Saddletramps hosted 10 ranked Bay Area Derby Girls B.A.D.Girls at Bladeworld in Tucson. This was a 2 30-minute period game being played under WFTDA 2.1.1 rules. There was an interesting crowd there tonight. I had met folks from Duke City, whom I had announced a bout for them out here last year. Also down from Las Vegas, is the Grand Poobah of Derby. There was also a silent auction taking place to help raise funds for the Saddletramps. This included things like artwork, certificates for local businesses, the original speed skates of Sloppy Flo as well as the infamous TRD smack-rack.
