Detroit Derby Girls' Inaugural Brawl

Hey Derby Fans -

Roller Derby has returned to Detroit! At last -- the event that you’ve all been waiting for: The Detroit Derby Girls Inaugural Brawl.

After months of skating, recruiting, training and fundraising, we are pleased to invite you to join us on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Masonic Temple in Detroit for our first public flat-track derby bout. In what is sure to be a hard-hitting competition, Fanny Pack and the fierce ladies of the KillPatricks will be taking on their feisty intraleague rivals, the Motown Hit Squad, led by captain Cookie Rumble.

Flat-track derby is a competitive two-team game of quad roller skating around a flat oval track Game play consists of an unlimited number of “jams” in which offensive players called jammers skate to lap and re-enter a pack of blockers, receiving one point for each member of the opposing team that they pass along the way. Skaters block and can body check one another and, in the end, when the dust settles, the team with the most points wins. Nothing is pre-planned and nothing is scripted.

This is a rivalry that has been months in the making and one that you’re sure to not want to miss.

General Admission, $15. All ages welcome. Doors at 6 PM with the derby action starting at 7 PM. Tickets may be purchased online through www.starticketsplus.com or at any Michigan Meijer store location.
