Carolina will fight to keep the 3rd place they were seeded to, while Detroit looks for another upset. Detroit just played, of course, but they look ready to rock from where I sit.

The winner of this bout will face Tucson in the Nationals, and the loser will take on Seattle.

And the girls are underway. Racer McChaseHer jumps off to take Lead position and earn 4 to put Detroit on the board first.

A scoreless jam as Bettie Rumble and Honey Suckit break through at virtually the same moment. Carolina gets the Lead and Bettie calls it as Honey approaches the pack

Princess America answers with a massive 13 point jam! The Detroit jammer sits in the box for the beginning of the next jam.

Carolina rookie of the year Holly Wanna Crack Ya, skating in her first interleague bout ever, scores another big 11 point jam to put her team up by 20

Jam called off again as both jammers land in the box. In this situation, the pivots on the track must swap their stripes for stars

Neither pivot earns Lead position. Killbox comes out the winner though, 11-8 on a 2 minute jam

Racer gets Lead and adds 3 for Detroit to bring them back within 14

Zella Lugosi takes the pack by surprise and slides through for a quick second scoring pass. Honey Suckit gets shut down.

Detroit's Honey Suckit is really fast, but she's tiny, so these aggressive packs just knocking her around

The bout is still within reach for Detroit, but the bench is frustrated. They've been behind all day and they're sick of it

The first period ends with Carolina up by 25. Once again, the Detroit Derby Girls go off to plot a way to come back. Unlike earlier today, this one is still within reach. It only takes one breakaway jam to close a gap like this.

Carolina answers with 4

Racer again to earn Lead and earn a few more. Detroit fighting back to within 20 now

Bettie Rumble answers back with 4 for Carolina, matched with 3 by Detroit

Princess America sent to the box, giving Rock Candy a chance to earn some unanswered points. Unfortunately, the pack falls apart and Detroit blockers can't help her through.

Cookie Rumbles gets Lead and earns 4. Detroit slowly chipping away at the deficit

Again, Detroit skating much better this period but fighting to make up what they lost in the first. They've got 5 back and scrapping for more. Timeout on the track.

Carolina gives up another 4 as Holly Wanna Crack Ya goes down to a great block

Another penalty brings us to another halt...no jammers on the track.

Battelle Hall is lit up now as Detroit brings this thing back to a 7 point game

The second is over. Detroit has had a great second period, bringing the score back to within 12. Great derby. Carolina fighting to keep the advantage.

Hurt Reynolds points out that this bout is a rematch of a bout at the ECE just a few months ago. In that bout, Carolina defeated Detroit by nearly 150 points. So this bout is a testiment to how far the Detroit squad has come.

Look for both teams to come out swinging in this final period. Carolina knows they could lose their lead, and Detroit would surely like to make their nightmares come true.

There's the whistle to start the third. Princess America grabs 5 for Carolina

Detroit will start the next jam with no jammer, but they should get one pretty quickly. Betty Rumble goes aline but gets buffeted by the pack. Detroit jammer Racer McChaseHer gets out, takes Lead, and gets a couple points!

Honey Suckit gets another Lead for Detroit, but neither team gets many points. Carolina has built the lead back up to 20 quickly

Killbox grabs a couple more for Detroit. The Detroit jammers are getting Lead more often, but the Carolina pack is tight

Bettie Rumble scores 3 for Carolina before being taken down by Cookie Rumble

A much needed grand slam for Detroit. They need some big jams now to keep it close.

But Holly Wanna Crack Ya answers with a grand slam+ for Carolina

Something I've never seen before - the jammer for Carolina just hangs in the pack and acts like a blocker. Good strategy once again from the girls in black and red. They don't really need to score points. They just need to keep Detroit from scoring points.

Killbox breaks through for Detroit as Carolina loses 2 blockers to the Penaltybox. Ooh, but Holly Wanna Crack Ya manages to earn Lead status and calls it before Killbox can take advantage.

Again, Zella Lugosi jamming for Carolina but not bothering to try to score. The extra girl in the pack makes the difference as Detroit remains stuck

Barring a miracle, it looks like we'll have Carolina as our 3rd place finish and Detroit comes in at number 4

But Detroit should be extremely proud of what they've accomplished here in Ohio. They were seeded 9th and they clawed their way up to 4th and earned themselves a trip to Austin to compete with the best of the best. Great job, Detroit.
