The house has filled up fast as the hometown crowd turns out for their OHRG

Energy is high for the first two bouts. Both teams look good.

It's a much more evenly matched bout than the last one. OHRG has some tough breaks, loses their jammer for almost a whole jam. But it seems like they should be able to close the gap.

Foxy Force 5 turns in a nice jam. It was only worth 4, but the team put it together nicely. But in the very next jam, OHRG loses their jammer again. Providence capitalizes nicely.

The first period ends with the home team down by 25 points. Providence is looking strong and confident skating off.

I haven't had cause to mention it, which is probably a good sign, but the reffing has been great so far as I can tell. All day. There are seven refs on the rink for this bout and they seem to work together well.

The girls are back out and OHRG is hungry for more. 25 points is doable if the blockers can shut Providence down.

Good opening jam for Ohio, 4-0

And another. Hell Camino takes out most of the Providence team in one block and Ohio puts on another 8 in two jams.

Providence jammer Dolly Rocket waves goodbye to the OHRG jammer as she kicks in the overdrive. Providence is still looking strong, though Ohio seems to have learned a few tricks about dealing with the pack. They still hold a 20 point lead.

The bout is getting rough. Ohio really wants it and Providence is getting pissed. Captain Barracuda turns in a fantastic jam to narrow the gap to 15.

Another blow to Ohio - another jam with no jammer and a blocker out.

Ohio calls timeout to try to regroup as Providence widens the gap back out to 24

Now it's time for Providence to skate without a jammer. Unfortunately there's only enough time to pull out 4 points.

We go into the second break with the score similar to the first. Ohio is clearly more in the game at this point, but Providence is able to maintain the lead they built early on.

The third period is under way. It's up to Providence to hold their lead. If they keep doing what they've been doing, they should have no problem getting to Carolina.

The first jam ends early as The Devil loses not one wheel but the whole truck from one of her skates.

The third period is continuing much like the second. OHRG is fighting hard, but every time they pull out a great jam, Providence answers and holds or builds the lead. But compared to the previous blowout, these teams are actually pretty even, seeds not withstanding.

Ouch. OHRG jammer goes out again.

Correction: The Devil's name is actually "ThaDevil"

Ohio has an opportunity to close the gap here. Providence has no jammer and only three blockers.

It's coming down to the wire. Both teams are still fighting like the bout just started, but Providence seems to have it locked up at this point.

Da Silva Bullet takes a hard hit from Barracuda and gets up slow. She's still rolling, though.

The bout comes to an end with the hometown crown cheering their heads off for the OHRG. They lost the bout, but only because of the first period. The rest of the bout was much more competitive.

A great day of derby here in Columbus Ohio. The day started with two exciting upsets, but the surprises stopped there. The GGRD/GRRD bout was nothing short of a blowout, though the GRRD didn't seem to care. I've never seen a team have so much fun getting crushed.

And this final bout was well fought by both squads and well won by Providence. But as I said, the gap was almost entirely due to the first period. Providence started strong while the OHRG took a period to get warmed up. I look forward to seeing Carolina vs. Providence tomorrow night.
