What an insane day of derby this is turning out to be. Seeds 1, 2, and 4 all knocked out before the final rounds. Can Providence pull off another upset against 3rd seed Carolina?

These two teams played just six weeks ago and Carolina came out on top by 36 points. The Riveters are surely plotting revenge.

Providence will be skating with the same lineup as last night. Here are the contenders for the final bout of the day:

There's the whistle

The pack is paced and calculating in a scoreless first jam.

Another scoreless jam as DaSilva Bullet calls another one early to keep the Carolina jammer from reaching the pack

Extremely tight. The two jammers together all the way through. Carolina squeaks out one and calls it

More tight, smart jams. RI gets a Lead this time, but has to call it.

For the fourth time, the Lead jammer falls behind and has to call it, keeping the score low

Providence finally gets on the board after 9 minutes.

Zella Lugosi finally gets a chance and adds 4 to Carolina's score

Carolina jamming very smart, calling jams at exactly the right moment. Providence still stuck with just one point.

Carolina starting to look dominant now. Zella Lugosi adds another 4

Princess America of Carolina hits the ground no less than four times in a tough jam. Providence eeks out 3 and calls a timeout. This game has a 20 point gap, but it still feels close on the track.

Both squads earn 4, then Carolina pulls another 3 in the last jam of the period. The girls skate off to contemplate the 23 point difference.

The back turn bleachers have turned into a full blown disco as all of the victors of the day decide that they can't wait for the after-party

Is there still a bout going on?

The announcers try to get control of the party so Carolina and Providence can continue the bout.

Ok, they're back out. Providence earns Lead but it's Carolina adding 2

Carolina runs up a great jam, but Providence answers immediately with Dolly Rocket

Providence calls timeout as Carolina continues to look dominant. Our smallest state needs to pull it together right now.

Carolina is really running it up now, and they look great. They really play smart. Derby is a game of differences and if they can take one or two and call it, they do.

Da Silva Bullet of Providence answers with a perfect 4.

Princess America (carolina) takes Lead position with only two blockers to help her, but she calls the jam before reaching the pack because Providence's jammer was right behind her.

But Providence loses their jammer to penalties. Another blow. Carolina takes advantage and scores 7

The period ends on a scoreless jam. Nearly sixty points between these teams and Providence goes to the locker room to look for a miracle.

Of course, the DJ works her magic again and the Batelle Hall looks like a rave.

I just chatted with Denise Lightning, formerly of AZRD, just moved to Raleigh, who's stoked to join this excellent Carolina league.

And once again, the refs struggle to gain control

Rhode Island loses their jammer and pivot to the penalties. The Carolina jammer gets called out as well and the jam stops. WFTDA does not jam without jammers.

And that's the end! The crowd is on their feet to celebrate a fantastic day of derby as Carolina defeats Providence 98-55

Carolina is the only top ranked team in the eastern division to hold on to their ticket to Austin
