Holy Moley! Charm CIty 244, Dominion 61

Here's a bout recap from Charm City's head ref Justice Feelgood Marshall:

The Charm City Roller Girls hosted their first home interleague bout as the Dominion Derby Girls from Southern Virginia came up to Baltimore to do battle with the CCRG's all-star team, the Mobtown Maulers. Both teams came into this bout with one interleague match under their belts -- the Maulers had spanked the Arizona Derby Dames 74-33 at Rollercon 2006 back in July, and Dominion had suffered a 162-115 loss to the Penn-Jersey She-Devils in September.

With the Dominion league only two games into its first season and the Charm City girls just having wrapped up their six-game first season, the ladies from Dominion were playing with a significant deficit of experience, and it was clear from the outset that the night was going to be a learning experience for the visitors. Mobtown's Lady Quebeaum led off the the bout with a big 12 to 3 jam over Dominion's star jammer Sweet N' Lowdown, and that set the tone for a night that was all Charm City. After just four jams, the score stood at Maulers 40, Dominion 6, with Dominion unable to mount a cohesive defense against the slashing, aggressive attack of Mobtown's jammers -- especially Joy Collision, who repeatedly surprised the Dominion blockers by coming at them instead of going around them, often leaving a slew of fallen skaters in her wake as she powered through the pack. At the end of the first period, the Maulers had given Dominion a brutal Baltimore welcome, up by a jaw-dropping 98-21 margin.

Unfortunately for the girls from Dominion, the second period was more of the same. On Jam 16, Betty Beatdown set a new Charm City record for most points in a single jam, putting up a 20 to 0 jam by lapping Dominion's Cutthroat KC four times. And on Jam 19, the Maulers showed their speed advantage in dramatic fashion, mounting a runaway defense on a Dominion power play -- a runaway that was so successful that they accidentally lapped the Dominion pack, drawing penalties for the whole team but drawing a massive response from a gobsmacked audience. The Maulers demonstrated their power as well, with Shevil Knievel, Coach Ballbricker and Joy Collision sending more than a few Dominion girls flying to the hardwood with shoulder checks, and Frenzy Lohan and Cheeta Torpeda deploying booty blocks that repeatedly stymied the Dominion jammers. At the second intermission, the scoreboard showed a whopping 180-32 advantage for the home team.

It was a long night for Dominion, but they never gave up, and Dominion's jammer Sweet N' Lowdown won the respect and cheers of the Baltimore crowd with amazing speed and a slicing attack that was the obvious heart of the Dominion offense. On the second to last jam of the evening, Dominion finally had a clear-cut triumph as Sweet put up a 12 to 3 jam over Betty Beatdown, but that was one of the only bright points in the night for DDG. In the end, the Mobtown Maulers tied or outscored the Dominion girls on 30 of 33 jams on their way to quadrupling their score in a 244-61 thrashing of the visiting team. Lead scorers in the bout were the Mobtown Maulers' Joy Collision, with 78 points on 9 jams, and Dominion's Sweet N' Lowdown, with 38 points on 12 jams.
