Ivanna and Dish return to AZRD

Submitted by azdr on December 22, 2007 - 5:41pm.

In an announcement on amp.az, Arizona Roller Derby (AZRD) has announced that former league founder Ivanna S. Pankin as well as Trish The Dish have returned to the league. No team assignments are known at this time.

Recently, Ivanna and Dish moved from Las Vegas to Tucson and moved their business, Sin City Skates to a new location in Tucson. We will have a story about the new Sin City Skates on the December edition of the Arizona Derby Report (AZDR).

A copy of AZRD's announcement follows:

Drumroll please… AZRD Would like to proudly announce the return of two of the most well known skaters in roller derby: Ivanna S. Pankin and Trish the Dish. Ivanna S. Pankin founded Arizona Roller Derby in 2003 making it the second oldest league in the nation. Ivanna was the original captain of the Bruisers and Trish was the original captain of the Bad News Beaters. These girls define old school! They are now back from their 2 year vacation in Sin City and are glad to be back home with the Arizona Roller Derby ready to roll and kick some derby butt. WELCOME HOME LADIES!!!

Thats Crazy

I thought AZRD & these 2 skaters went separate ways on bad terms. Why did they leave in the 1st place?

Whats going to happen to the Sin City
Neanerdolls?
Will the addition to these two skaters enough fire power for them to "take out" Tuscon as the best "Flat Track" league in AZ?

I'm gonna keep a eye out on this one.

Ivanna and Dish return to AZ

I am not personally that familiar with the reasons behind them moving onward. I am pretty sure that someone else with factual information on this will comment.

AFAIK, the SCRG is alive and well. They just had a public scrimmage on 12/15.

IMHO, it's going to take a lot more than just Ivanna and Dish to make AZRD have any contention for a much better ranking. The loss in Minnesota has pretty much blown any possible 2008 tournament hopes for the TCT out of the water.

Maybe the cancelation of the bout with KCRW may be a blessing in disguise for Coach Pauly and the TCT. This gives them more time to focus and work their way back up. We have heard that they may play Rocky Mtn. sometime soon.

The TRD Saddletramps are playing TXRG in February and if their travel team bouts as good as the two house teams who bouted in November, they have a good chance of increasing or maintaining their ranking. Houston and Portland are definitely in their sights.

We're doing fine here in Vegas

We're doing fine here in Sin City. The team plays against Dominion Derby Girls on January 19th. Two players (even two really good players) does not a league make.

I can't speak to any "bad terms," though the first bout there was in Vegas was against AZRD's "new meat" team, and a couple of their refs we borrowed for our most recent bout stayed at Trish and Ivanna's place. I'd suspect you might have heard wrong.

As for their reasons for leaving, I can only say that they'd already been planning to leave Las Vegas, a family matter probably did a lot to choose the time and where they moved to.

-Barely even speaking for myself...
