Austin tastes defeat

July 3, 2006 - 3:54pm

A few months ago, Rat City's Hurt Reynolds wrote "no team from anywhere else has ever beaten *any* team from Austin since the dawn of modern roller derby." Well, those days of total Texas domination are finally over. At last night's Austin/Madison/Carolina flat track invasion, Madison's Dairyland Dolls defeated the Texas Rollergirls' Hotrod Honeys and the Carolina Rollergirls' travel team also bested Austin's Hell Marys. A double defeat for the queens of derby.

Could this spell the end of the Texas reign of terror? It's doubtful. No one has yet come close to taking on the all-star Texecutioners without having their pretty little asses handed to them. But it's good to see the competition stepping up. Any sport is a lot more fun when the outcome is not a foregone conclusion!
